The new womens Olympic high-performance Skiff. The 49erFX. The 49erFX is capable of speeds over 20 knots.
The 49erFX is based on the mens 49er which has been in previous Olympics, it has the same hull but a smaller rig.
It is very exciting for women's sailing to be able to race this boat, it allows us to go faster than we have before. It is physically demanding, especially for the crew. It is a double handed boat (sailed by 2 people) that requires both the helm and crew to trapeze (hang of a wire above the water off the side of the boat) to keep the boat upright. It is a challenging boat that requires agility and speed.
